F-106 Delta Dart
The F-106 Delta Dart entered operational service in May of 1959. It first appeared with the 498th Fighter Interceptor Squadron at Geiger AFB, Washington. It remained as our premier interceptor for 25 years until replace by the F-15 Eagle.Its prime mission was to defend America from enemy bombers. It could carry two AIM-4F and two AIM-4G missles. It later carried A Vulcan cannon with 650 rounds of 20 mm ammunition. It was powered by a Pratt & Whitney J-75-P-17 engine, allowing it to exceed Mach 2. |
F-101B Voodoo
The first F-101A was delivered to the USAF on May 2, 1957. The F-101A was powered by two Pratt & Whitney J57-P-13 turbojets. It had a maximum speed of Mach 1.72 and range of 3,000 miles. It was designed to carry a Mk28 nuclear bomb and was able to carry conventional bombs, rockets and four 20mm cannons. On December 12, 1957 it set a world speed record of 1207.6 mph. The F-101 had a crew of two, with a service ceiling of 58,400 ft. |
The F-111E
The F-111E is a versatile multi purpose fighter bomber of the US Air Force. It was first flown on August 20, 1969, and became operational with the 27th Tactical Fighter Wing based at Cannon Air Force Base in New Mexico. The F-111E has wing span of 63 feet, swept back it is 32 feet. Its maximum speed is Mach 2 at an altitude of 30,000 feet. |
The F-80 Shooting Star
The Lockheed F-80 Shooting Star was the first operational turbojet to serve with the U.S. Air Force. It first saw combat in Korea. The first jet to jet victory was scored November 8, 1950 by Lt. R. J. Brown over a Mig-15. However, the F-80 was soon replaced by the F-86 Sabre, due to the superiority of the Mig-15's top speed of 668mph. F-80's were then primarily used for ground attack and photo recon missions. Pictured is the Monogram 1:48 scale kit. |
F-4G Wild Weasel
The F-4G Phanton II " Wild Weasel " was born at Hill AFB in Utah. There F-4E's were equiped with the latest in avionics, resulting in the F-4G. It received the APR-38 Radar Homing and Warning System. It's arsennal included the AGM-45 Shrike Anti-Radiation Missle, the AGM-78 ARM and the AGM-88 HARM missle.Other armament included the AIM-7 Sparrow and AIM-9 Sidewinder missle. The F-4G was powered by 2 GE J-79-GE-17 engines. Maximum speed is Mach 2.2. |
B-47E Stratojet
The B-47 Stratojet was a long range bomber built to fly subsonic speeds at high altitudes. Its main purpose was to carry nuclear weapons to the Soviet Union. It entered service with the USAF in 1951 and served through out the 1950's and 1960's. It had a crew of three. It was powered by 6 GE J-47-GE-25 turbojets. Maximum speed was 607 mph.
